The MARK DOES STUFF TOUR 2012 is here!

You know, this needs its own post so we can do planning, but I’ve solidified the dates of my next tour! Fifteen events across the western half of North America, and MUCH FUN WILL BE HAD.

The Mark Does Stuff Tour 2012

4/19: San Francisco, CA – SF Public Library, Main Branch, Latino Room, 5:30 – 8:00pm
4/20: Los Angeles, CA – Doomie’s Home Cookin’, 8:00 – 10:00pm
4/21: San Diego, CA – Mesa Housing Complex, Room 9156, 6:30 – 9:00pm
4/22: Las Vegas, NV – UNLV Student Union, Room 207, 7:30-10:30pm
4/23: Phoenix, AZ – BookMaze, 6:00-8:00pm
4/24: Tucson, AZ – Indian Ridge Swimming Pool, 5-9pm, Potluck!
4/25: El Paso, TX – The Percolator, 7:30 – 10:00pm
4/26: Albuquerque, NM – Butt Thornton & Baehr Law Offices, 3rd Floor, 6:30 – 9:00pm
4/27: Denver, CO – Fluid Coffee Bar, Downtown Denver, 6:00 – 9:00pm
4/28: Salt Lake City, UT – City Library, Conference Room A, 2:00 – 6:00pm
4/29: Boise, ID – Flying M Coffee/Concert Garage, Nampa Location, 2:00 – 5:30pm
4/30: Spokane, WA – Dinner Party, Moxie, 7:00 – 9:00pm
5/01: Portland, OR – Central Library, US Bank Room, 5:30 – 7:45pm
5/04: Seattle, WA – Wayward Coffee, 8:00 – 10:00pm
5/05: Vancouver, BC  – Library Square Conference Center, Room TBA, 5:00pm – 9:00pm

You’ll notice I swapped out Las Cruces with El Paso. I wanted to do one date in western Texas because I’ll be doing the rest of the state in July while on my way out to Ascendio. I also switched the order of Spokane and Portland because it’s much cheaper to take a bus from Boise to Spokane than from Boise to Portland.

What can you expect at any of these dates? Well:

  • All will be in the evening to accommodate those who might be working or at school.
  • They will last anywhere from two to four hours, depending on what the venue is and what I have planned.
  • There will be live readings of Mark Does Stuff original writing!
  • There will be a Q&A/Discussion section.
  • There will be live readings of TERRIBLE NOVELS and AWFUL FIC that I challenge you to bring to me. The goal is to RUIN ME. (No super violent, rape fics are allowed though. Your goal is to find something hilarious to read, not to trigger half the audience.)

If you have any sort of lead on a venue, let me know. Do you go to a university? Can you reserve a room through a fandom-oriented club? Do you belong to a local Nerdfighters or Harry Potter club? Do you know of a great bookstore or coffee shop that is interested in indie readings? Any idea, no matter how weird, is good with me. I love doing events in strange places, so suggest away. You can always email me at markreadsandwatches [at] gmail [dot] com.

If you live in any of these cities and think you can come, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RSVP TO THE EVENT PAGE ON FACEBOOK, OR LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW STATING YOU PLAN ON SHOWING UP. This is INCREDIBLY important because it will give me an idea of how large of a space we need. Please do one or the other. I know you may be a lurker, and I LOVE YOU AND WOULD LOVE IF YOU CAME, but you must de-lurk in some form so that I don’t have a space disaster like I did in a few cities on the Intensity in Ten Cities tour.

I will have the glorious Pigfarts Jar with me on this tour. As of now, all events are Pay As You Like. This means there is no set door fee, and you can contribute however much you think the event is worth. The entire process is anonymous, too, so there is no shaming of folks who cannot afford to pay anything but still want to come. Ultimately, my events are free!

If you would like to ensure that I can continue to tour, feel free to visit my online store and purchase any of my eBooks if you can. This money will be used to buy bus, train, or plain fare, and will keep me fed on the road.

THANK YOU ALL. Thank you especially to those who came to my first tour and helped pay for this one. Y’all are beautiful people, and I’ll be back soon.

LET’S DO IT.

Mark Reads ‘The Return of the King’: Book 2, Chapter 3

In the third chapter of the second book of The Return of the King, LOOK, OKAY, THERE WAS A POINT READING THIS WHERE I DON’T THINK I BREATHED OXYGEN FOR AT LEAST FORTY-FIVE SECONDS, AND THAT IS GENERALLY A BAD IDEA. BUT I COULDN’T HELP IT. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS CHAPTER. I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT HAS JUST HAPPENED. I AM UTTERLY DESTROYED. THIS HAS CHANGED EVERYTHING. OH MY GOD THIS IS THE WORST CHAPTER CLIFFHANGER IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE. WHY.

I DONE A TOUR (and I will do more) (omg that rhymes)

Well, this is remarkably late. LOOK I WAS WRITING LOTS OF POSTS FOR NEXT WEEK AND I BARELY GOT BACK ON TUESDAY SO STUFF. But holy shit, I went on tour and it was a success?!??!?! No one’s first tour is good, and I know that from experience. But somehow, unbelievably so, not only was my very first tour for Mark Does Stuff an overwhelming success, but I am not broke and I came home with money. THIS. NEVER. HAPPENS. WHEN. YOU. TOUR. Unless you’re U2 or something, but who wants to be U2? Not this guy.
