Mark Predicts ‘A Wizard Abroad’

Hello, cousins! (Hey, I picked that up at CrossingsCon.) It’s time for another absolutely attempt at predicting a Young Wizards book. Will I be as eerily accurate as the last time? LET US SEE.

I’m actually rather proud of my first batch of predictions for this series, and I am going to ride this wave of good fortune by trying to do the same thing a second time. I feel confident! I feel certain! This will probably be embarrassing, but OH WELL.

First things first: some gloating. Here’s what I said would happen in High Wizardry:

1. Kit and Nita will get assigned a new task. Indeed, an easy prediction.
2. It will be dangerous. Also cheating, but cut me some slack, I am so wrong so often. 
3. Their adversary will be the Lone Power. Also easy and SUCH A GOOD CONFLICT, so I’m glad I’m right.
4. Tom and Carl will appear again. As they should! PUT THEM IN ALL THE BOOKS.
5. AND THEY WILL MEET NITA’S PARENTS. EVEN BETTER. THAT’S 5/5, I’M SO STOKED.
6. The Callahans will ask to see more of their daughter’s wizardry. Strangely, I don’t think this one counts. While they witnessed more of it, I don’t know that they ever explicitly asked to see more of it. 
7. Dairine will begin studying to be a wizard, too!!! SHE HAS TO, SHE KNOWS, SHE HAS THE APTITUDE FOR IT. I HAD NO IDEA THIS WOULD BE THE MAIN PLOT SO EVEN THOUGH I GOT THIS RIGHT, I WAS STILL WRONG.
8. Dairine and Nita will fight over this. What have I done.
9. Kit and Nita will talk about their ~feelings~ for one another at some point in the book. WHAT HAVE I WROUGHT
10. I’m guessing that the title refers to FLYING. So… they’ll be birds? Or something? Look, in hindsight, this is not all that terrible of a prediction. If Deep Wizardry followed their journey in the ocean, it stood to reason that the “high” part was in the sky. SHUT UP, THIS IS GREAT LOGIC.
11. What if it was about marijuana use. Shut up, Mark.
12. I’M KIDDING, DON’T DO DRUGS, STAY IN SCHOOL. (I still stand by this message, though I find it hilarious because I actually dropped out of college. I once gave a lecture at a college – one I was paid for!!! – where I teased everyone at the end of it because I didn’t have my degree and I was considered an expert. I plan to do this at least seven more times in my career.
13. Nita’s bully will make another appearance. Not a bad prediction, but nope.
14. Nita and Kit will have to do wizardry at school. NO SCHOOL AT ALL.
15. I AM NOT READY. Truth. An ETERNAL truth.

So, here we go. A Wizard Abroad.

1. Nita and Kit will travel outside for the United States for the first time.
2. My guess is that it will be a school-sponsored trip. We had a few of those in high school, and they’re just about to be the right age to be in high school.
3. They will travel to the United Kingdom!
4. Specifically, I’m guessing they go to London.
5. At some point, they’ll travel to a SECOND country.
6. While on this trip, they will be assigned a mission by the Powers That Be.
7. They’ll have to use a translation spell at some point to speak with someone!
8. They will use that awesome transport spell to travel a long distance on Earth at least once.
9. I predict EVEN MORE ANGST and FRICTION between Kit and Nita regarding their friendship and feelings for one another.
10. The Lone Power will be mentioned, but will NOT be the antagonist for the book.
11. The villain/antagonist will be a new character.
12. Who will also rise in the vacuum left behind by the Lone Power.
13. No one will tragically die at the end of the book. That’s a demand more than a prediction.
14. Let’s get meta: at least once, I’ll get to tell a story about traveling abroad.
15. At least once, there will be a scene so bizarre and unexpected that I will be rendered speechless on video.

All right, cousins. Let’s do this! Young Wizards book four, here I come!!!
