The Official Mark Does Stuff store is now here!

As you can see in the new menu up above, there is now a link to the new Mark Does Stuff store.

Here, you can purchase the first of many items to come: the Mark Reads Twilight eBook, currently available in ePub and PDF formats (good for the Nook, iBooks, Adobe Acrobat reader); the Kindle book will be added this weekend. This is a book of the reviews of the first book in the Twilight saga, adapted to a reading experience more accessible for an eBook. This means new parts, lots of new footnotes, entirely rewritten passages, and possibly 356% more fun!

This has been in the works for a while now. In the coming weeks, I will release the other three “books” for Twilight, then work through all seven Harry Potter books, and then begin adapting Mark Watches with an e-book per season. (Since seasons are shorter, the books will also probably be cheaper.) For all of you here, I will also work through all three Hunger Games books, The Book Thief, and The Golden Compass.

If you are at all interested, please think about supporting me, as this will allow me to also begin to update the store shortly with actual merchandise. I cannot reveal exactly what will be sold, but I expect a lot of you to be pleased.

Additionally, I had mentioned that I wanted to start a newsletter to send out with updates for reviews, new books, new merch, important stuff you may have missed on my Tumblr, and other such announcements. If you have no interest in buying Mark Reads Twilight, you can just register at MarkDoesStuff.com, that will sign you up to be emailed from time to time! (I’m thinking once a week, probably on the weekends.)

This is a very exciting and HUGE time in my life. I’m happy to take the self-publishing route and I hope you’ll join me in this weird little experiment of mine.

For those of you who are Harry Potter fans, just a heads up that on Friday, July 15th, at 12:00pm, I will have my very own panel for Mark Reads Harry Potter at LeakyCon 2011. Yes, MY OWN PANEL AT A CONVENTION. (Somehow, I’m most excited for that.) If you’ll be at LeakyCon, I guarantee a ridiculous 50 minutes, full of a Q & A, story telling, five envelopes, and a surprise for every person who attends. I will be making announcements about a MRHP meet-up in Orlando shortly, organizing a collective viewing of Deathly Hallows: Part II, and other such shenanigans. Also, I HAVE TO GO TO DISNEYWORLD. I HAVE TO.

One last update: How does July 9th, 2011 sound for a morning liveblog over on Mark Watches of A Very Potter Sequel??? (Morning relative to the west coast, I mean.) THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PARTY RIGHT. A nice little digital send-off prior to the weekend that Deathly Hallows: Part II is released!

Anyway, thank you all for your hilariously inspiring support and the unending love you send my way. It’s entirely made this possible and I appreciate it so much. I hope to meet some of you in Orlando! Until then, happy Watching!

That's great, Mark! I'm sure that'll be SO exciting for us and you. And, YES go to Disneyworld. It made my life complete and WOW is all I can say.

So, yeah, good on you- I'm pleased you're getting recognised for all your indepth, brilliant analysis of everything- HP in particular.

Completely unrelated but…have you heard about POTTERMORE, yet? 😀

  2. Shiyiya says:

I am delighted to have had the chance to help prepare your first ebook to go out into the world! ^_^

ETA: Whoa, where did that emoticon come from o.o I do not recall that happening before.

  3. cait0716 says:

This is so exciting, Mark! I'm eagerly awaiting the kindle version of Mark Reads Twilight

  4. flootzavut says:

Fantastic Mark, and SO EXCITING about having your own panel at LeakyCon, that's great.

I'm waiting for the Kindle version of MRT but be assured I will be buying and eagerly awaiting more.

    I AM EXCITE!

  5. Darth_Ember says:

Hopefully the MRT ebook will be absent the bit with the disgusting images? I had to stop reading to close the tab and go throw up, there, and I still gag even thinking about it. And with an ebook it'd not be in a separate section that you could close or hit the back-button on…

    • xpanasonicyouthx says:

HAHAHAHAHAA. Yes, those will be gone. (I don't think they're in Mark Reads Twilight. Didn't I use them during Eclipse? Or maybe New Moon.)

  6. Vannevar says:

Item number: 42. Oh, Mark, clearly you're not suggesting Twilight is the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything? =P

  7. elyce says:

Um, I don't want to put a damper on the excite going on, but… aren't there copyright issues with this stuff?

    • who_cares86 says:

Nah doubt there's any trouble and if there is he can just take them down. It's not like he's printing them and putting them in the stores, just to make a profit on other people work. Sure he is commenting on other people's work but pretty much the entire text is his own, the brief quotes and plot descriptions should fall under fair use.

      • elyce says:

But he also does play-writes using the characters which is basically fanfiction and that's not allowed. Or in Harry Potter, he does diary entries of characters. There's a reason why fanfiction has disclaimers about not making profit off of it.

        • theanagrace says:

Cleolinda wrote a book of her movies in 15 minutes, so I would think Mark's use of the source material would fall into the same category that allowed her to publish. Seeing as it's (or at least could be classified as) satire, I think he's safe. I do remember him talking about discussing these with a lawyer when he first told us about it. I think.

          • xpanasonicyouthx says:

Yep. I cleared these with a lawyer, which is why it took so long to make them. On top of that, the rest of the books will be drastically different in terms of using quotes, so it won't be an issue in the future.

    • Jake says:

Yeah I was just thinking about that. He uses quotes from other peoples books and comments ONLY on their books. Im curious as to how these can be sold. Still buying them though

  8. Person says:

Will there be "Not Prepared" merchandise? Please?

    • who_cares86 says:

I want a T-shirt with "You Are Not Prepared" on the front and "Shit Just Got Real" on the back. Of course I could just make that one yourself.

  9. pennylane27 says:

ALSO ALSO, WOE IS ME I DON'T LIVE ANYWHERE NEAR THE US WHICH MEANS I CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS LIKE SEEING YOU AT LEAKYCON OR DISNEYWORLD OR ANYTHING. DAMN

  10. monkeybutter says:

Please tell me you will be selling bottles of win.

I'm really excited for you and I'm looking forward to finally going through MRT! And I'm totally jealous about Disney World.

  11. bradycardia says:

Item no. 42! I love it!
    (Sorry, big Douglas Adams fan)
(I briefly thought maybe I got copy number 42 but I see someone else commented on the item number above)

  12. theanagrace says:

All of the up votes for these ideas! I will buy these things and use them in public!

  13. theanagrace says:

    Mark, two questions:
    1) What forms of payment does your store accept?
    2) When I went there this morning to sign up, it told me I was already signed up with that email. Was this a glitch in my internet, or were we somehow all added already? Did you use your amazing Mark Powers to add me before I could? 😀
EDITED: because I went and read the FAQ and the checkout page and I see that you accept paypal, excellent *tents fingers*

  14. meesha1971 says:

Congratulations Mark! I really wish I could go to Leaky Con now. I hope you will be posting about it. I will definitely be checking out the store and hope I can be here for the liveblog. 🙂

  15. lexy says:

I AM SO UPSET THAT I AM NOT GOING TO LEAKY.

  16. blessthechildren says:

I am going to see you at LeakyCon IRL! I am totes skipping the Final Battle musical just to come and see you at your panel. Yeah, that's right, I deem you to be just that awesome. 🙂

  17. hayley says:

So, so, so, so…how does a liveblog actually work? I haven't been able to actually make one before because of the time but I'm pretty sure there won't be any issue here.

    • echinodermata says:

Traditionally, Mark does liveblogs on Saturdays at 11 am PDT (or PST depending on which system the U.S. is on at the time), such that everyone across the world can join in and watch at the same time. Basically, the idea is to get your hands on a copy of the video, and to start the video right when the liveblog starts, so that everyone's commenting on the same moment at the same time (more or less – people can be off a couple minutes of each other depending on clocks and how fast one types).

For A Very Potter Sequel, the format is likely going to be a bit more complicated because people have to switch youtube videos and stuff. So here's the liveblog post for AVPM, which I presume will be the same basic scheduling Mark will use for AVPS.

      • hayley says:

Ooookay, so it's just a thread of comments that we keep refreshing / replying to as we watch something at the same time? That's less complicated than I thought it might be. ^^* Thank you!

        • pennylane27 says:

It helps if you click on the Last Activity at the top of the comments too. That way you don't have to refresh the whole page. Although last time there were so many comments that it didn't work all the time.

    This is so fun :3
Everytime I think of Mark Reads Twilight I get reminded of DIE IN ALL THE FIRES.

  19. penguin993 says:

Anxiously awaiting the Kindle format of MRT! Congrats on all your new ventures, Mark!

  20. Omg Mark, you read my mind. I was just thinking about how much I would love to have Mark Reads…on my Kindle! No joke. This is so awesome! Can't wait!

  21. anamardoll says:

I am so grateful for the ePub store. I rather compulsively collect web sites that I love and I was dreading the time it would take to copy off yours but gods help me sometimes when you're on the bus with your eReader you just have to read some Mark Reads!!! And now I can just pay you money and get it all in a nifty ePub format and go on with my life content and happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

*scurries off to buy Mark Reads ePubs*

  22. Kira Wonrey says:

*-* This is fantastic! I'll try to convince my parents to let me buy this…

  23. mbalda says:

    MARK AT LEAKYCON. I CAN'T EVEN…

This will be SO AWESOME. I am totally picturing this panel as one huge IRL GIF party. And I'm totally "We Have To Go Back" Jack in my mind.

  24. Anon8 says:

    So happy/excited for you Mark!
Also, AVPS?! My life is complete!
Did you know that Starkid will also be at Leaky Con? Unfortunatly, I can't go, but I'm hoping to see plenty of footage. I'm not sure if timing works out or anything, and it's sure to be chaotic since Darren Criss is confirmed to be there, but they're promising tons of cool stuff and I'm sure you'd have a good time. 🙂

  25. Pixie says:

Actually, “NOT PREPARED” might make a really cool belt buckle, too. XD

  26. Anon8 says:

Thumbs up for "totally awesome" muchly appreciated.

  27. Bookworm2829 says:

A Very Potter Sequel? YES!!! Note: I liked it better than the first musical (probably because Joe Walker plays a woman) and have memorized most of the songs <3

  28. EmmylovesWho says:

    Happy for you Mark 🙂

  29. Saber says:

One question? Do the reviews work on a kindle?

  30. flootzavut says:

    KINDLE EDITION! I AM EXCITE!
