I wasn’t initially going to do this, but it’s too irresistible of an idea. The level of unpreparedness I’m experiencing is actually entertaining to me. I’ve gotten little to no indication of where the story can go at this point, so I’m perfectly fine embarrassing myself publicly for your enjoyment. Shall we?
I’ll actually make sure these are scheduled between each volume because I really enjoy doing prediction posts. This one in particular is going to be ridiculous, but DO YOU EXPECT ANYTHING LESS FROM ME? In the predictions for Volume 3, I’ll revisit these and laugh. Hard. Anyway, off I go!
Mark’s Predictions For Volume 2 of Sandman
- This might be a preference more than anything else, but I think we’ll see Morpheus give a character a nightmare specifically. It can’t happen in the background to count. It has to be a specific plot point.
- We will meet two of Morpheus’s siblings.
- Gaiman will introduce another major character, but they won’t last beyond volume 2.
- We will learn about how Morpheus came to acquire his librarian, Lucien.
- BATMAN. JUST ONCE. THAT WOULD BE COOL.
- Okay, I say there are EIGHT D.C. characters that make appearances in volume 2. Background characters count.
- I think that wherever Morpheus’s journey takes him, he’ll stumble onto the main conflict of the next volume entirely by accident.
- Time travel? I don’t know, I feel like I ask for that in every project I make.
- Wow, this is a lot harder than I thought it would be. It’s fascinating to me that the first volume is so self-contained. (I suppose that’s why it’s called “Preludes & Nocturnes.”) So that means: volume 2 will introduce a plot that carries over through MANY volumes to come.
- I really can’t guess anything more. I don’t know what to say! I’ve been reduced to silence through sheer unpreparedness. Damn it.
