To settle any confusion, I\u00c2\u00a0also<\/em> run a sister site called Mark Watches<\/a>, where I do the exact same thing as Mark Reads but with full runs of television shows! The rules are the same, the format is the same, but the content is all television. On top of that, when I started this project, I was working for a site called Buzznet, so Mark Reads Twilight<\/em><\/a> and\u00c2\u00a0Mark Reads\u00c2\u00a0Harry Potter<\/em><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0both still live on those sites.<\/p>\n One of the things I love about what I do is the fact that we have a\u00c2\u00a0very<\/em> active community here. We use rot13 so that people can follow along and discover a book\/show on their own. People post their own theories! SpectralBovine, Kickpuncher, enigmaticagentscully, arctic_hare, and quite a few other commenters routinely upstage me with their OWN reviews, images, GIFs, reactions, and general shenanigans. I highly suggest reading the comments for your favorite chapters\/episodes, as you’ll discover things you never even thought of.<\/p>\n Over in the right sidebar (or under the menu bar of “Past Books,” you’ll see a long list of books, kind of like this:<\/p>\n To date, I’ve read over 50 books in the Mark Reads format. I have a whole lot more to go<\/a>! I’m currently working my way through Tamora Pierce’s Tortall universe<\/a>, as well as Mira Grant’s\/Seanan McGuire’s\u00c2\u00a0Newsflesh<\/em> trilogy<\/a>. On Mark Watches, I am covering\u00c2\u00a0The West Wing<\/a><\/em> and\u00c2\u00a0Friday Night Lights<\/a><\/em> for the very first time!<\/p>\n Now, I realize I’ve got a LOT of posts for a newbie to sift through. (There are nearly a thousand alone on Mark Watches!) So, I thought I would link to some of my favorite and most popular posts for certain series!<\/p>\n I often do this\u00c2\u00a0thing\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>where I write a review in what is referred to as an “alternative review” style. This means my brain does this\u00c2\u00a0thing<\/em>, comes up with some bizarre idea, and I run with it. My final\u00c2\u00a0Harry Potter\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>post<\/a> wasn’t the first of the style, but it’s my favorite review written in the “play” format. I brought those back when I was reading\u00c2\u00a0The Lord of the Rings<\/em>:<\/p>\n The Fellowship of the Ring<\/em>: Chapter 10 (which is\u00c2\u00a0Lords and Stuff<\/em> #1) The Fellowship of the Ring<\/em>: Book Two, Chapter 2 (Lords and Stuff #2<\/em>)<\/a><\/p>\n The Return of the King:\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>Chapter 2 (Lords and Stuff #3<\/em>)<\/a><\/p>\n The Return of the King:\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>Chapter 8 (Lords and Stuff #4<\/em>)<\/a><\/p>\n My favorite series to cover for Mark Reads has definitely been\u00c2\u00a0His Dark Materials<\/em>.<\/p>\n During the end of\u00c2\u00a0The Amber Spyglass<\/em>, I was compelled to do something that I’d done during my read of\u00c2\u00a0Harry Potter<\/em>: open up about my life. My posts always exist between an academic critical analysis and a deeply emotional response to literature. This is one of the least silly posts I’ve ever written<\/a>, and it concerns my journey to atheism and how a single thing (like marzipan for Mary) can bring a person to disbelief. And heads up: there’s a massive trigger warning for that post. It discusses homophobia, abuse, neglect, and suicide very frankly. This post is also from 2011, so it’s not eligible for consideration. I just like it a lot.<\/p>\n Even though I’m currently doing them, I’m really proud of my very first post about\u00c2\u00a0Alanna: The First Adventure<\/em><\/a>. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading Tamora Pierce’s work, and\u00c2\u00a0lord<\/em>, I was so unprepared.<\/p>\n So, I didn’t know how much I’d grow to love Mira Grant’s\u00c2\u00a0Newsflesh<\/em> world, so I think the best example of this is my review for\u00c2\u00a0that<\/em> chapter of\u00c2\u00a0Feed<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n Over on Mark Watches, I ventured through\u00c2\u00a0Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em> and\u00c2\u00a0Angel<\/em> for the first time, and I’m particularly proud of some things I wrote for that:<\/p>\n Buffy<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n “Passion”<\/a> Angel<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n “City Of”<\/a> I implore you to check the sites out!
