‘Mockingjay’ Prediction Post

As usual, the normal rules apply to this sort of thing. First of all, please do not say, insinuate, hint, imply, or otherwise make any sort of sign that my predictions are right or wrong. If you do, you can bid your commenting privileges goodbye. The end. Fin. Forever.

Before we get into my general nonsensical predictions, let’s go over my predictions from last time so we can all laugh at how bad I am at this.

• We will see Effie in a new color wig. FUCK YEAH I RULE.
• Gale and Katniss will start off being friends; Gale teases Katniss about what she did in the Games, but he eventually starts growing apart from her. NOPE. NOPE.
• Peeta is going to act indifferent to Katniss at the opening of the novel, a continuation of the end of the first book. I AM A GENIUS.
• We will not see President Snow until the end of the book. A;KSADJF A;SFHAS;ASDFF;KLJ FDSA;JFLS
• The title is a reference to Katniss herself. I’m guessing that since she is The Girl On Fire, she gets….caught? Wow, that sounded much better in my head than it does when I type it out. CLEARLY I AM FLAWLESS.
• Katniss’s mother will have improved. TRUE ~TRELAWNEY~ STATUS
• Katniss will meet Rue’s parents on that tour she mentioned in the last chapter of The Hunger Games. They will thank her for what she did in the arena. FUCK YEAH.
• Conversely, she will meet the parents of the boy from District One who she killed and they will hate her. NICE TRY.
• Someone will find out that Katniss and Gale have been leaving the district to hunt. (Maybe that relates to how she is caught?) OH SHIT YEAH.
• We will see the Capitol again. FUCK YEAH.
• This is a no-brainer, but should be said: We will get a much better idea of where the districts in Panem are and what they each specialize in. I DON’T KNOW IF THIS COUNTS.
• And let’s just get to the big predictions. I think Katniss’s mom and Gale will die by the end of the book. Collins clearly has no reserves about killing off characters, so I think they’ll both die. WELL. OK.
• Katniss will not figure out if she likes Gale or Peeta more by the end of the book. I AM COUNTING THIS ONE.
• I think we will finally hear about hints of some sort of rebellion or war by the end of the book as well. These dystopian novels usually deal with someone standing up against the tyrannical government in it. AS;DFJSADL; OR BY CHAPTER 2. LOL.

OH MAN. I forgot how fun these are. Onwards to Mockingjay!

• WE WILL SEE PEOPLE. Ok, sorry, I had to.
• There will NOT be another Hunger Games again. If there is, I will probably punch myself in the face.
• We will FINALLY SEE DISTRICT 13. I mean they are headed there SURELY COLLINS WON’T TEASE THAT WITHOUT WRITING ABOUT IT.
• At some point, we will go back to District 12.
• We will meet Annie.
• About District 13: I’m guessing about 100 people live there. We will learn how they were able to stay off the grid.
• KATNISS WILL CHOOSE PEETA.
• And one of the reasons for that is that GALE WILL DIE. That’s right, I’m bringing it.
• Katniss’s mom will also die. So will Johanna, Finnick, Beetee, Brutus, and Haymitch. I expect this book to be brutal.
• I expect Panem to be liberated. I base that off the image on the cover.
• It will be discussed at length, but District 13 will NOT nuke the Capitol. They will find another way to overthrow them.
• Whatever method they find to overthrow the Capitol will involve the death of President Snow.
• Plutarch Heavensbee will sacrifice himself.
• We will find out that Cinna was killed during Catching Fire. 🙁
• THEY WILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

If you haven’t read the third book (WHICH IS LIKE THREE PEOPLE NOW), go ahead and submit your predictions too!

oh mark i cant wait – so happy your here, this was my favo of the three. Just sayin'. :):)):)

2. bendemolena says:

My prediction: WE LEARN THE ORIGIN OF DISTRICT ELEVEN'S FAMED INVISIBILITY CLOAK.

3. Jenny_M says:

You have written words up there. I predict that you will write more that either confirm or deny whether or all statements above are true and/or false. I also predict that you will not be prepared. I am pretty sure you will also be excite.

Hopefully that is vague enough!

4. cait0716 says:

Oh I do love your predictions, Mark.

I have to say, I don't think Katniss' mom improved so much as their relationship improved. And I think a lot of that was due to Katniss maturing and making an effort to repair their relationship.

• Blabbla says:

Also, there aren't any more responsibilities for her mother to fail at, since none of them have to work to survive.

5. Anseflans says:

Wow Mark, you didn´t do half bad on the Catching Fire predictions! You should go teach at Hogwarts!

As for Mockingjay: I can't tell but I AM really excited for you to read it!!!

6. EldaTaluta says:

#This is a no-brainer, but should be said: We will get a much better idea of where the districts in Panem are and what they each specialize in. I DON’T KNOW IF THIS COUNTS.

This totally counts. We did learn a fair bit about what all the different districts do.

# We will find out that Cinna was killed during Catching Fire. 🙁
# THEY WILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

I don't know if there can be a happily ever after without Cinna. 🙁

• Ken says:

# We will find out that Cinna was killed during Catching Fire. 🙁
# THEY WILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure these predictions are mutually exclusive.

7. Treasure Cat says:

CONFESSION….Sometimes when I read your prediction posts I imagine myself stroking a white persian cat and smiling mysteriously because I know what's going to happen. I'm not weird at all.

8. Amy says:

NO predictions from me as I have read the book. But I love reading what you think is going to happen. It always makes me smile whether you are right or wrong.. Love you Mark!

9. hallowsnothorcruxes says:

Okay prediction time!
1. We will of course see district 13.
2. There will be a full-fleged war against the Capitol.
3. We will find out why snow smells like blood.
3.Gale or Peeta will die. My money is on gale.
4.Katniss's mom and Prim might also die, mostly because they are not really fleshed out characters.
5.Hopefully Haymitch and Cinna survive and Haymitch kills Snow.
6.This is a no-brainer. There will be no more hunger games.

10. chvz says:

My prediction is that Bella finally sleeps with Edward…

what?? wrong book??

11. jennywildcat says:

Mark, I have to tip my hat to you. You have more predictions than I had when I first read "Mockingjay" ('course, I was all "OMG OMG OMG – must read Mockingjay IMMEDIATELY!!" after I finished "Catching Fire." My thoughts were not very coherent at the time, nor do I have much patience to wait – lucky I had already bought the book in anticipation of this (and here, I must also salute those who had to wait MONTHS for the release of Mockingjay. How did you people survive?)

I seriously cannot wait to see your reactions throughout this book. And that is all I will say for now. ^_^

12. bendemolena says:

Katniss and Johanna will become the fiercest couple in the history of ever. All others will bow to them, and they will bring the Capital to their knees with their sheer unabashed fierceness. Peeta and Gale will get together to ~comfort each other~, knowing they will never reach that level of awesome but will try anyway. And fail. Sexily.

I mean, that's that I'm hoping for.

13. andreah1234 says:

I HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK. AND IT'S KILLING ME. STUPID LATE ORDERING THING. I HATE YOU LOCAL BOOKSTORE.

So… I'm liking your predictions Mark, and I will like to add a new one:

NOONE WILL BE PREPARED. FOR ANYTHING IN THIS BOOK.

And Cinna will be alive. And noone else will die. And everything will be perfect and magical. And I might be in denial. Only might.

14. Karen says:

Can I just say that I'm counting the hours until Friday comes not because that's when I get a four day weekend but just because you'll start reading Mockingjay?

15. Spugsy says:

My predictions:

Mark will not be prepared
Shit will get real

• NeonProdigy says:

I predict that these predictions are ~FLAWLESS~

• xpanasonicyouthx says:

this is real good

• syntheticjesso says:

Hmmmmm…. I'm not sure. I mean, that's so ~formulaic~, because that's how it's been in the first two books. I think Collins is going to surprise us. I think Mark will actually be totally prepared, and shit will never get real, because the whole book will be a dream sequence about butterflies and puppies and rainbows, because Katniss is all drugged up, right? And then she will wake up and it will be like 10 years later and everyone will be all, "Yeah, we defeated those Capital jerks a long time ago, get with the times!" and then the book with end.

Suzanne Collins, I SEE THROUGH YOUR SHENANIGANS.

16. notemily says:

I predict that shit will get real, haters gonna hate, and you will not be prepared.

17. ardentfemale says:

CLEARLY YOU ARE A GENIUS.

So I -haven't- read these books, and I've gotta say, I don't think I will and I am solely relying on your reviews because from what you've quoted, I would absolutely hate Collins' style of writing. I am absorbing, as per usual, all my entertainment from your reviews.

Anyway, as for your predictions of Mockingjay, I LOLed at "THEY WILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER" because I think you stole that from my brain. I mean, these characters are clearly tortured beyond any of us can imagine, can't they all just live happily ever after?

My predictions:
– Katniss will fail in saving Peeta and HE WILL DIE at the hands of President Snow (blood drinking vampire? what!?)
– Katniss and Gale shall have sexual relations
– Katniss' mom dies in some heroic/sacrificial fashion for Katniss and Prim
– We finally get to see District 13
– Nuclear holocaust for the Capitol (damn the man!)

18. I enjoy these predictions and sound a bit on par with what I was thinking when I started Mockingjay

19. ooohlivia says:

lol when making predictions about this book, I felt sure that Katniss would choose Peeta at the end. Everything else… I didn't have a clue where to start guessing.

20. bluejay says:

I predict keysmashing.

21. LOTRjunkie says:

Dammit, Mark, you have no idea how tempting it is to spoil you when you post these kind of predictions… Don't worry, I won't, though.

22. momigrator says:

My predictions:

We will find out Snow is a vampire. JK, but we WILL find out why Snow smells like blood (ewwwwww).
Peeta will be kept alive in order to lure out Katniss.
Gale will be the one to rescue Peeta because Katniss is too important, in the process Gale will die. Gale does this because he loves Katniss, but knows that she loves Peeta, and he loves her enough to let her go.
Gale and Katniss will kiss one last time.
Katniss will end up with Peeta.
Prim will die. Katniss mother will suddenly became a BAMF because of this, instead of curling in a ball.

EDIT: Oh yeah, when are you starting Mockingjay? Can we expect a review tomorrow or Monday? Later today???
-crosses fingers-

23. hpfish13 says:

So, I'm worried about spoiling by commenting on any of your predictions…..so instead I'm going to post a completely ridiculous theory.

I have figured out why Johanna decides to be naked all the time……….
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0025.html

She's trying to be INVISIBLE!!!

24. Ishii_Era says:

LET'S DO THIS 😀

25. QuoteMyFoot says:

Allow me to make my own predictions in graph form obv. Btw, to put my predictions in perspective: I read spoilers for basically all major events of this novel and I was still not prepared.

I was ~totally disappoint~ that I did not get to use these yesterday when I made them 🙁 SO EXCITE FOR MOCKINGJAY! Oh Mark you are gonna be mush on the floor by the end of this book.

26. Erin says:

I love the predictions! I can't wait for you to find out if you're right or not. Also, I have to say that as soon as he showed up in Hunger Games, my absolute favorite character was Cinna. He's one of the fictional characters I wish I could be real-life friends with.

27. Kara says:

This is all too long to write out on my phone, so I’ll only predict one thing.

28. stellaaaaakris says:

Predictions!

NO ONE WILL EVER BE PREPARED. EVER.
SHIT WILL BE REAL.
Keysmashes galore.
More awesome Mark typos like the bottles/waterfalls of win and Wiress' theory about the cock.
Awesome gif usage will be awesome.
Some people will continue to ignore the spoiler policy and we shall publicly shame them. (Siriusly people, there's a link right at the top.)
Collins will continue to rejoice in crushing my soul.
People will stop down-voting well written and thoughtful comments just because they disagree with the sentiment.
AND WORLD PEACE.

29. feminerdist says:

I honestly had no predictions before picking up this book (immediately after the last line in the previous book). I had nothing. No genius thoughts or anything. All I thought was, "Well fuck if I know where this crazy brutal shit will go. All I know is that it will probably be more brutal than then other two, though I don't even know HOW that's possible." So that was my big prediction. Needless to say, I was unprepared.

30. Kara says:

This is all too long to write out on my phone, so I’ll only predict two things: Peeta will die, not Gale, and Prim will either get seriously injured or die. I’m so exccited to finally be able to read this!

31. andreah1234 says:

Wow Thanks. I shall use that. I still hate local bookstore though.

32. Matthew says:

I think there will be a moral dilemma for Katniss, where she has to decide whether to drop the bomb on the capital. I am sure many people, including Haymitch, will want to drop it, but Katniss will have hesitations and doubts.

One thing I am somewhat surprised about is how non-often Gregor the Overlander has been mentioned in the comments here (not at all, as far as I remember). I am guessing that this will somewhat resemble an important point in that series.

• bluejay says:

The Underland Chronicles were so good! Even though they're clearly intended for a younger audience than the Hunger Games series, there are a lot of similarities. The moral gray area, the violent deaths, and Haymitch/Ripred come to mind.

• Karen says:

Yeah I was suprised too. As soon as I heard Haymitch speak (ok maybe not *that* soon) I totally ah! Non rat-Ripred!

• Lynn says:

I think it is because the books have some similar elements and thus could potentially be considered semi spoilerish. That is why I have not said much about them personally.

• Bea says:

I'm way, way late, but I just finished Catching Fire and I can so see this happening. Katniss won't want to do it when she thinks of Effie and her prep team (if they are all alive and haven't joined the resistance by that point.)

Since I'm way behind the rest of the world, I am sure I am NOT PREPARED.

33. ShiiShii says:

I predict 'WHATTHEFUCKJUSTHAPPENED' and sheer anger. Anything else would be a spoiler.

34. finnickodair says:

We're in that fuzzy state right now, where shit has been real, it really has, and yet for some reason we're still all so unprepared for all the shit that is about to become very real for Mark. It just gets real…er. That could have been phrased better.

35. bookling says:

OMG I AM SO EXCITE. I am going to re-read Mockingjay with you, because I haven't read it again since it came out.

But I am also going to be laughing evilly and gloating a little bit, since I know what happens.

"I know what happens in Mockingjay… Mark is so very unprepaaared…"

36. Doodle says:

Mark I have a question for you and it's very off-topic but this is the most active and therefore most likely place for it to be answered so…=]

Do you know approximately how long it'll be until you start Avatar? 😀

37. theupsides says:

My predictions for this book were similar to yours, mostly.

I can't wait to see your reactions. This book, much more than the other two, has majorly divided the fandom. For that reason it's kind of the most interesting, in my opinion!

38. Kaybee42 says:

Deaths- Peeta! He has to die, HAS TO!
Rue- for the sob factor
Possibly Finnick and that girl he loves?

Rescue op- there will be a totally awesome rescue operation to get Peeta and Johanna back, which will be successful! (please please please!) But by the end of the book in some big climax scene Peeta will die anyway, fighting the capitol.
The rebel people in 13 wont be as 'good' as we are hoping. I'm basing that off the fact that as far as we know, they have done fuck all!
If Peeta DOES survive then I think Katniss will 'choose' him… but the experience of the war will change him and he wont be all sweet and innocent… and this is a long shot but he will fall in love with Johanna too and it will mirror the Peeta/Gale/Katniss love triangle.
That cat that never got a second mention will reappear (what's his name?) unless he died and i forgot? But yeah I reckon he will be around 🙂
Oh yeah, no more hunger games in this book.

39. herpestidae says:

Due to my poor photoshop skills, I am unable to make a fitting picture of what I intended, so I'll describe this to you.

A picture of Marth, from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. An arrow pointing to Marth, labeling him "Mark."

Marth finds Mockingjay on the ground and picks it up.

A Picture Of Pit, doing his "You're Not Ready Yet" taunt. Pit is labeled "People who read the book."

Marth opens the book. Captain Falcon jumps out of the book, and Marth gets a Knee of Justice to the face. Captain Falcon is Labeled "Collins."

Black Screen with White Words: "Mark Did Not Expect This to Happen."

40. fuchsia says:

My prediction: you seriously have no clue how fucking unprepared you are.

41. bell_erin_a says:

Heh. Ha. Haha. Hahahaha. I love prediction time, and I am excited for this book (and of course, your unpreparedness)!

Also, I love reading everyone's predictions (real and absurd, they're all just so entertaining!). It makes me sad that I had finals in between reading CF and MJ and thus was absolutely not thinking about what I thought would happen in this book (oh, except I totally was because this series kept me up more than a few nights… I just couldn't stop thinking about it over and over and over again. It just didn't translate out into predictions. Also, because I usually fail at making those). I was just STUDY STUDY STUDY GET HOME AND READ MOCKINGJAY ASAP.

42. residentgamer says:

*is just so excited for you to begin* 😀

43. tethysdust says:

I will also go over my Catching Fire predictions!

~ Katniss and Peeta will go on their Victory Tour. The only new people who will have names/be described will be the friends/relatives of the District 11 and the District 2 tributes. Or okay, maybe Foxface's family. They'll be referred to as something like Catsmile and Raccooneyes.

I was wrong, only District 11.

~ Gale will be caught hunting, and the Capitol will execute his family. He will be totally distraught and start a rebellion that Katniss/Peeta eventually get caught up in.

I'm going to call that partially correct. He was caught hunting and punished, and he was involved in starting the rebellion that picked up KatPee in the last chapter.

~ We will learn more about how Haymitch won his Hunger Games.

Yep, sure did!

~ Effie will become a revolutionary (wouldn't that be wild!)

I'm still hoping!

~ Katniss will continue not being able to figure out her feelings.

I'm going to call this a win. She did determine that she is sexually attracted to Peeta, but I still don't think she's got it all sorted.

~ We will learn more about the sinister secret police of the Capitol.

Actually… we didn't. I will hope that happens in Mockingjay!

~ Katniss' mother will have discovered her inner strength and she and Prim will be doing just fine. This will help Katniss finally forgive her.

Yay, I called some stuff right!

~ Peeta will have some serious anger/trust issues with Katniss. Having to pretend they're a happy couple all through the Victory Tour will cause him considerable psychological distress.

This was true.

44. Lumosnox says:

Yay!!!! I waited to read Mockingjay JUST SO I CAN READ IT WITH YOU. First time I've ever gone in just as unprepared as Mark! So. Predictions:
1. Katniss will NOT be the leader of the rebellion, or if she is, she will suck at it and make lots of stupid mistakes. Instead, Gale and Peeta will fight over the leadership.
2. Haymitch will continue to be awesome
3. They will rescue Cinna from some underground dungeon because I WANT HIM TO BE ALIVE DAMMIT
4. Deaths will happen
5. Katniss will choose Peeta, but Peeta will die. YES I WENT THERE, I FEEL LIKE THERE WILL BE AN UNHAPPY ENDING 🙁
6. Alternatively, Gale will die, and Katpee will name their future child Albus Severus Gale Cinna Haymitch Renesmee Mellark-Everdeen. *FAIL*
7. President Snow will be like the final boss and will have genetically engineered ninja powers or something (lol actually that is like the lamest thing ever, I hope that doesn't come true)
8. Technically there won't be another Hunger Games, but at one point they WILL have to go into the arena to rescue someone or some such thing.
9. THERE WILL BE PSCHOLOGICAL BRAINWASHING AND OTHER TRAUMA.
10. Neither Mark or I will be prepared.

45. tethysdust says:

New Mockingjay Predictions to go along with Mark's:

~There will be a rebellion, and the rebels will win. President Snow will die.
~The love triangle will be resolved by one of the guys' death. My money's on Peeta.
~We will learn that Cinna got away safely in the last book. Johanna and Finnick will live, too! (take that, Mark's predictions!)
~Katniss will be pissed about being used, but then will continue to let people manipulate her for the rest of the book.
~I agree that Katniss' mom will probably die.
~Collins will find some way to include arena fighting in the plot. (She's 2 for 2 so far!)
~Katniss will find some way to rescue the Avoces.
~The silly Capitol citizens will not be killed in the revolution, but will be forced to learn to live off the land with the rebels after everything goes down.

That's all I can think of right now! I look forward to discussing Mockingjay with everybody! 🙂

46. karadudz says:

I just love how the prediction post comments are so humorous with made up "predictions" and cross-over nonsense with other books.

It clearly makes sense because…. HOW ELSE COULD WE COMMENT WITHOUT RUINING ANYTHING FOR MARK?

I am very EXCITED for this book to start…. I'll have to say though, not my favorite book. My favorite is Catching Fire (even if it was narrated really quickly I just find that it was so much more intense than Hunger Games).

YAY FOR MOCKINGJAY!!

47. CINNAmon says:

My predictions before I read Mockingjay:
– Collins explores D13 and it will be super cool
– Katniss, Gale, and the rebels fight the Capitol, there will be war
– Katniss rescues Peeta, the Capitol kidnaps Katniss’s family
– Mrs. Everdeen dies but Prim is rescued
– Peeta dies sacrificing himself for Panem while he, Katniss, Gale, and the rebels take over the Capitol
– Panem gets a new government, the country is peaceful, no more hunger games
– Katniss and Gale go out and live in the woods after their siblings grow up

48. blis says:

oh how about a split narrative. that could happen maybe

we still get the katniss stuff and district 13, but we switch to Peeta in the capital too.

2 stories and they eventually meet in the middle or near end?

49. bookling says:

OH YAY NOW I CAN USE THIS GIF.

I NEVER GET TO USE IT BUT ISN'T IS MESMERIZING?

Ursula and Scar are definitely my favorite Disney villains.

50. bell_erin_a says:

I expect Panem to be liberated. I base that off the image on the cover.

Not saying if you're right or wrong, but seriously, you win for remembering to look at the cover this time around. I only took a good look at the Catching Fire cover when someone mentioned a few reviews ago that it told you the shape of the arena, and I only just noticed this one now that you brought it up in your predictions. I guess I was always so distracted by the mockingjay itself that I neglected to look at the rest of the cover. Sneaky, and props to you, cover designer.

So The Hunger Games cover. Did that one have any special significance, besides Katniss's ~skills~ with a bow, and that I've always assumed it's the pin?

(Apologies if my eaten comment is regurgitated and reposts itself so that this one becomes a duplicate.)

51. kaycee says:

My friends and I actually wrote out predictions while we waited for Mockingjay because we're dorks and because there was way too much "i totally knew that locket was important" or "i never honestly thought he was Ron from the future." after we finished Deathly Hollows. I won't post my Mockingjay predictions here, since I know if I was right or not. But anyone else want to go to the spoiler site and say what we thought was going to happen and have a good laugh?

52. peacockdawson says:

Oh man.

53. sabra_n says:

Katniss’s mom will also die. So will Johanna, Finnick, Beetee, Brutus, and Haymitch. I expect this book to be brutal.

You forgot Prim. Does that cover just about every good guy who isn't Katniss or Peeta? 😛

54. prideofportree says:

my prediction: Mark will cry. A LOT.

55. Gabbie says:

CAN'T WAIT!!!!

56. Saber says:

I want to see Johnna and Peeta bust out of the capotil together. Wouldn't that be amazing?

57. We will not see President Snow until the end of the book. A;KSADJF A;SFHAS;ASDFF;KLJ FDSA;JFLS
This was my favorite.

The title is a reference to Katniss herself. I’m guessing that since she is The Girl On Fire, she gets….caught? Wow, that sounded much better in my head than it does when I type it out. CLEARLY I AM FLAWLESS.
More like LAWLESS. I am only giving you partial credit here. The title is clearly a reference to the rebellion.

WE WILL SEE PEOPLE. Ok, sorry, I had to.
In a startling turn of events, the Capitol unleashes an INVISIBILITY RAY upon all of Panem.

If there is, I will probably punch myself in the face.
You should make a GIF of this.

58. PaulineParadise says:

One of my prediction of catching fire came true : ‘I’ll probably me extremely amazed by the book’

I slept for 4 hours after finishing catching fire at 3 am, and had to go to school the next morning. Gah.

59. adev0tchka says:

"WE WILL SEE PEOPLE." I cannot confirm or deny this.

But siriusly…you ARE NOT prepared.

60. Amanda says:

"KATNISS WILL CHOOSE PEETA."
This just makes me think of Pokemon… PEETA, I CHOOSE YOOOOOOOOOOOU.
I can't wait for your many awesome reviews of Mockingjay.
I feel like I relive the book through you and it brings me happiness.
All I will say (what you must already know) is that… YOU. ARE. NOT. PREPARED.

61. The Queen of Harts says:

Yaaay predictions 😀

Oooh I'm excited for you to start Mockingjay 😀 Hey Mark – have you heard? You are ~not~ prepared.

Oh, by the way:

The Hunger Games movie release date (subject to change as always, but still super cool): http://ology.com/screen/hunger-games-gets-release

Squeeeee~

62. BradSmith5 says:

Oh man, you got the wig! What color will it be in Mockingjay, though!? Predictions:

Part One "The Other Side" – On their way over to District 13, Katniss and the gang receive a broadcast from Snow. It turns out that he forgot to read the back of the Quarter Quell paper, where it states that ANOTHER Hunger Games must begin as soon as the Quell is completed! Also, that the winner is rewarded with any blond-haired, cake-baking lad of their choosing! What luck! Katniss is going back into the ring!

Part Two "Panem-demonium" – After five chapters of wondering, Katniss concludes that this is a trap. Two chapters later, the other characters admit that they knew it too. Snow, however, will not be foiled! He announces that now every person in Panem must participate in the Games, and that the continent itself will be the arena! Holy crap, if only I had enough space to tell you how exciting this is!

Part Three "Slaves of Fashion" – At last, Katniss has saved Peeta and arrived at the top of 'Snow Tower.' But what's this!? The president has already been killed by––Cinna!? He explains that he's been poisoning the president with 'Blood Berries' for months, and that Snow's prosthetic tongue kept him from noticing. Now he is free to create his Cinna-topia, where any unworthy styles are erased––and only high fashion will reign! Everyone agrees that wearing the 'Mockingjay' clothing line is much better than the crap Snow put them through, so they crown Cinna 'Supreme Designer' all go to work making clothes! THE END

• Annalebanana says:

That. Was. So. Awesome.

• Not_Prepared says:

I've read Mockingjay before, and I didn't wanna ruin it for anyone, but….

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS. Right down to the part names. What an insightful prediction. You go, Glen Coco.

• erin says:

"…the continent itself will be the arena!" Holy shit. This is just like a dream I had a few months ago. It was the most epic/horrifying thing ever, and I'm convinced it was Hunger Games-inspired…

• Not_Prepared says:

I've dreamed about the entire world having a giant Hunger Games and sending 2 kids from each country! North Korea would pwn.

63. korat97 says:

I personally think that president snow is actually a mutt, and that why he smells like blood. He's human, but his mind was warped and twisted in a lab in the capitol before he was born.

I also think gale will die, but not before confessing his absolute love for katniss on camera for all of panem to see.

We will see the 75th arena and what katniss did to it.

all of the mockingjays in panem will die at the beginning of the book, causing the entire country to forget the war and help save the environment.

effie will commit suicide.

64. Phoebe says:

My Prediction: Marks vocabulary will shrink at an alarmingly fast rate to the word "WWWWWHHHHHYYYYYYY"

65. Brown JamieLeeCurtis says:

So the plan was to *Not* read ahead, but i found this online and legit read it in one sitting. AHH I WAS SO UNPREPARED (AND YOU WILL BE TOO)!! My whole brain was crying because this book is so goddamn streets ahead 🙂

66. accio doublestuff says:

Katniss’s mom will also die. So will Johanna, Finnick, Beetee, Brutus, and Haymitch. I expect this book to be brutal.
THEY WILL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

this juxtaposition made me LOL. hah i suppose you have a relative definition of happily ever after, huh?

67. Hotaru-hime says:

I didn't really like Mockingjay, so I look forward to see how you react to it.

68. Lady X says:

My predictions : – Mark will not prepared.

– I will get head-splosions from Mark’s unpreparedness, eventhough I have read it twice.

69. syntheticjesso says:

Um, doesn't this count as a spoiler?

70. Not_Prepared says:

PREDICTIONS
1) Mark will be vastly unprepared.
2) Shit will be incredibly real.
3) Mark will only have the ability to speak through GIF's.
4) On the rare occasion when Mark IS able to speak, he will only be able to say "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU".

Prepare yourself, Mark.

71. CatyB says:

I have one

Mark will say "WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN" at least once

72. mugglemomof2 says:

You have way more predictions than I did. My only prediction was that
Gale will go rescue Peeta for Katniss and in the process fall in love with Johanna.

I will not confirm or deny anything

73. inzhuna says:

Mark, you're scary! Maybe you should open a fortune-telling business!

Ok, my predictions~
(so excited! got the book but not opened it yet)

1. Katniss will actually get pregnant. (how weird am I that this is my first prediction?)
2. Rebellion will succeed but the costs will be horrendous.
3. Peeta will die. 🙁
4. Katniss will get some kind of horrible scar/lose a limb/something like that
5. Katniss will be the one to kill snow.
6. Haymitch will die defending Katniss.
7. Katniss will start out self-hating and reluctant to be a leader; all she will care about will be saving Peeta, but slowly she will come to terms with her status at the 'symbol' and accept that as her duty.

74. theanagrace says:

And Haymitch is Ron from the future!
(it can be a crossover too, right?)

75. lunylucy says:

GALE AND PEETA CHOOSE EACH OTHER. Sorry, Katniss.

(by EmpressFunk on deviantart)

76. IsabelArcher2 says:

So, I have no predictions, because I've already read the book. I'm not even going to hint whether or not I liked it, BECAUSE THAT IS STILL A SPOILER. Instead, I give you this, which I saw the other day and freaked out:

Obviously I had HG on my mind, because I was confused for waaay too long about why they would have a Cinna air-freshener. I mean, he's awesome, but I don't remember any specific references about the way he smells.

• Gabbie says:

Well, Katniss didn't go into much detail about him. She said he was a young man with short brown hair and green eyes when they first met, then kept it at that. I mean, wouldn't it be dreadful if someone KEPT DESCRIBING A GUY ALL THE TIME? Like his DAZZLING SCULPTED CHEST, or his INTOXICATING SCENT or even HIS DAZZLING TOPEZ EYES? (This is nothing against you at all, Isabel. I have a friend who just started reading it and is raving about it and… and… I need a moment. :S )

• jennywildcat says:

Internet high five, my friend!

• tchemgrrl says:

If it was Snowberry you could have thought EW BLOOD AND ROSES AND BERRIES.

77. Sarah says:

The night before it came out my thoughts were "OMG Mockingjay so excited, no more district 12? District 13? My first day of high school is tomorrow, I will be lost. But nobody cares cause Mockingjay comes out!" And I couldn't come up with predictions because I was stuck at NO DISTRICT 12?!?!?!?!?

78. Kelly L. says:

I still think that the title of Catching Fire refers to the fact that Katniss created a "spark" among the districts and that the entirety of the book was about them, you know, "catching fire" as indicated in the last chapter when they're all "Panem is in full scale rebellion" or whatever. The girl on fire lit a fire under everyone's ass.

My theory, anyway.

79. trash_addict says:

My prediction: people are going to keep making me downvote them by being spoilery!

Siriusly though dude, predict away, you are Forever Unprepared (nice work on Mockingjay though, you did pretty well!…while still having your brain exploded several times 😉 )

80. Blabbla says:

"There will NOT be another Hunger Games again. If there is, I will probably punch myself in the face. "

Nope. Next year, the new rules for the hunger games is that only female victors from 12 will be able to compete, and the arena consists of being dropped into a pool of lava.

81. christwriter says:

Lemme just say that getting to re-enjoy these books vicariously all over again is ALMOST as good as being able to forget I ever read them so I can read them again.

And without spoiling anything, Suzanne Collins is the most twisted human being I have ever heard of. And this is a good thing. She kind of taught me that okay writers write good stories and good writers write good stories that also screw with you THE ENTIRE TIME.

And yeah, this is gonna be fun (goes to reload Mockingjay onto her MP3player GOD I love audiobooks)

82. I may be laughing at this post.

Just a bit.

Just a tiny bit.

I promise it's all good-natured laughing, though.

83. thatonegirl says:

Here's what I've come up with:

The good guys will win/no more Capitol or Hunger Games
Haymitch will die, and Cinna (I want to see his death so we can mourn him properly) and Peeta, cuz deaths come in 3's
And Snow will die too.
They'll try to pass off some other baby as the fake Katpee fetus. Maybe Annie can actually be pregnant and Katniss can borrow her baby. (Seriously, if the whole Katniss is pregnant plot just mysteriously disappears I will be mad)
Katniss will realize she luves Peeta but then he'll die a tragic death.
Gale will end up with Madge.

84. Annalebanana says:

I read CF the day it came out, so here are the predictions I HAD for Mockingjay in the year of endless torture.

1. It will be totally awesome. And unexpected
2. Madge's family had something to do with the rebellion
3. Katniss gets to D-13 only to discover that her Dad and all the other miners are there! They only faked the mine explosion so they could sneak off through the *super special secret tunnel* to District 13! Yay for mass conspiracies!
4. Katniss will not be very happy with the rebels.
5. Finnick will exhibit more awesomeness. We will also meet an equally awesome Annie
6. Peeta will stop being an annoying character to me! (Wishful thinking….)
7. Katniss will live an awesome life alone because WHO NEEDS MEN?
8. All cool characters will be dead.
9. Katniss will get to Pres. Snow, already beaten to the ground and in horrible condition. She will have her bow crushed underneath his foot and he will shoot her with a gun. The rebellion will either have been a complete failure, or they will continue on without Katniss, and they will sacrifice practically everything. (I love sad endings in certain circumstances. I think they can provide much more meaning than something like Harry having children and prancing about. Sorry, but I just wish Harry stayed dead. In a nice way.)
10. This book will be tragic and depressing. I will cry much.
11. NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME! This is the worst part about waiting for other books to come. I had to wait for the last two, and I practically spent all that time coming up with awesome theories and character development and thinking about things, and it is torturous to not know what happens and who will be dead. I seriously dragged my friends to the release of Mockingjay and amidst random outburst of screaming (literally) joy, I kept freaking out that everything was going to be changed and I would never be able to see the series as I did at that moment.
12. I will love the book.
13. Katniss will be "free" from everyone's control (Before she dies, of course.) This was assumed by the cover of Mockingjay.
14. Oh also, I predicted the cover would be gray! Black=coal (Aka district 12, and the way things were), Red=Fire (rebellion sparkage!), Gray=ashes left behind (For good or for bad, this was going to resolve everything.) I actually had no predictions for the title, though. There was a theory that it was going to be The Victors, but I never really believed that… (Oh, and other random side note, there was a theory that the 2nd book would be called Quarter Quell. Thank goodness we have much better names.)

Yeah, I had millions more, but that is what I can think of at the moment.

• notemily says:

Interesting theory about the color. Blue = the blue sky that they can finally see after they blew up the Arena? Except it was night.

Or maybe blue = even HOTTER fire that burns blue instead of red!

• Kal says:

"I love sad endings in certain circumstances. I think they can provide much more meaning than something like Harry having children and prancing about. Sorry, but I just wish Harry stayed dead. In a nice way."

If Mockingjay ends in an Atonement-like tragedy, I will track Collins down, kidnap her to the moon (see what I did there?) and then give her the most EPIC HIGH FIVE EVER with super-bounces that utilize the fact that the moon has less gravity.

Also, this may be totally wishful thinking, but I kinda wish that Haymitch turns evil and will be all like “Psych! Got you Katniss! I’m working for Snow! Mwha ha ha! Oh, but I was totally serious about District 12 being gone—they turned it into Cape Canaveral 2! Only it’s in a mountain range, so calling it a ‘cape’ doesn’t make sense but this is Snow we’re talking about, and he’s kind of psycho, so it’s okay! Anyways, since not all of the tributes died during the Quarter Quell, we’re going to make it extra special by taking you to District 12—I mean Cape Canaveral 2—and we’re putting you all on ROCKETS TO THE MOON! Where you will fight to the death ON THE MOON! In SPACESUITS! On TELEVISION! And it will be COOL!

Oh yeah. I know that this is EXACTLY what happens.

• IsabelArcher2 says:

Dude. The ending to Atonement… No spoilers, but… yeah.

• Mimzy says:

I walked out of that movie feeling so pissed off….

And two hours later, still fuming over it, I decided that it was quite possibly the best way to end the story and that I loved it dearly.

• Hanh says:

Oh good I thought I was the only one who wanted Harry to stay dead.

85. Amy says:

I won’t say if your predictions are right, but remembering my predictions, I was so ridiculously wrong.

86. RainaWeather says:

The title is a reference to Katniss herself. I’m guessing that since she is The Girl On Fire, she gets….caught? Wow, that sounded much better in my head than it does when I type it out. CLEARLY I AM FLAWLESS.

I thought catching fire referred to the districts catching on fire metaphorically. Like the "sparks" of a revolution.

• Mauve_Avenger says:

Hm?

• Booksinbulk says:

Yea. A little suspicious.

• Mauve_Avenger says:

Only just now got the e-mail notification for some reason, but…

Thanks for breaking Mark's spoiler policy, and semi-spoiling me as a result? I'm deleting the post just in case.

All I can say is that I've been spoiled on exactly two aspects of this book (one of which might not even be true, and neither of which I mentioned above), and that TV Tropes will ruin your life.

87. tgyr says:

I'm so glad I caught up on these before you started Mockingjay… I started out reading along with you, but at like Chapter 4 of Hunger Games I couldn't handle it and read through the series in like three days, then lost internet capabilities for a while, then had no time to read. Now I caught up in the past SINGLE DAY. THAT IS HOW ADDICTING YOUR WRITING IS. Now I must say, like everyone, YOU ARE NOT PREPARED.

88. aficat says:

The Nazi Imagineers of the Capitol laugh mockingly in your direction.

Never prepared.

89. Revolution64 says:

Predictions:
1) There will be words.
2) These words will be on pages.
3) These pages will be white, or perhaps tan.
4) Katniss will do things.
I'm psychic.

90. Gabbie says:

WE WILL SEE PEOPLE. Ok, sorry, I had to.

NOPE! Mrs. Collins writes the whole story in Katniss' perspective while she is isolated from the public in District 13 until she dies. She didn't even get to see the people who took her to the room because she was always drugged without consent.
Not prepared, Mark. Never prepared.

91. jennywildcat says:

"3. we will discover that Beetee really is Dr. Sheldon Cooper."

Now I need Jim Parsons to be in the Mockingjay movie. MAKE IT HAPPEN, LIONSGATE!!

92. Anri says:

My predictions from before I read Mockingjay:
-Gale or Peeta must die. Probably will be Gale.
-We'll attempt to rescue Cinna/learn more about his past
-There will be a rebellion.
-Johanna will die.
-Maybe Katniss's mom will die? Look, it has to be someone important, and it's for sure not going to be Finnick because I will be HEARTBROKEN if it is Finnick, and if it's Prim that's just messed up (…maybe it will be Prim? No, if Collins's is going to kill off Gale, she won't kill off another MAJOR person that Katniss loves. So it'll be the mom. Probs.)
-President Snow will do something evil.
-Rescue attempt #1 for Peeta will involve Katniss, and it will fail.

….yeah. Those were my thoughts from before I got/read the book. I think the thing I was most sure of was prediction #1. I was convinced that the only way to resolve the love triangle was to kill someone – wow that says a lot about these books.

93. stefb says:

3. we will discover that Beetee really is Dr. Sheldon Cooper

Bazinga.

94. kajacana says:

I'm excited! Enjoy the Mockingjay experience, Mark and all new readers! 😀
I can't believe we've reached Mockingjay already — it seems like just yesterday you were like "so guys I'm gonna read The Hunger Games"…..

95. megan says:

As I'm reading these predictions, you have no idea how hard it is to keep me from spilling everything… not as hard as it was for the Potter books (especially for the endings of OotP and DH) BUT STILL. I can't wait until you read Mockingjay so I can capslock with you 😀

96. megan says:

Oh — and when I was about to start this book, I had a crazy prediction that the Capitol would be completely destroyed by/at the end of the novel and it either be bombed by nuclear weapons from 13 or the entire citywould sink underground.

I thought that if I could imagine the most crazy, intense, surprising situation ever, then maybe I wouldn't feel so surprised by whatever the ending had in store for me. But I was wrong. Oh man, was I wrong…

97. Matthew says:

The way people keep on going on about "a new direction", I am wondering if the next episode will really throw something new and weird into the mix.

I've been wondering about the motivations of the Capital, since they have super advanced technology but seem to be enforcing such a heavy handed rule. Are they actually something really out of left field, like vampires or aliens? Are they psychic vampires that feast on misery? I have no idea, but it would certainly be a twist.

98. lebeaumonde says:

I'm sorry Mark, BUT ISN'T BRUTUS ALREADY DEAD. I mean, umm

99. Pk9 says:

Yay! I'm all caught up. It's so fun reading these predictions. I never finished my 2nd read of Mockingjay so I'll definitely be re-reading along.

Anyways, I only made a couple of predictions before Mockingjay, which I will quote here:

Haymitch and Cinna are the mentors, so at least one, probably both, have to die.

Either Peeta or Gale SHOULD die, but I have a feeling that they won't, and one will end up with Madge.

Blood breath will be explained that Snow bites his cheek when stressed, like Katniss. (Thank you hogwartsprofessor.com for providing me with such a simple explanation that I never thought of.)
